About meI create colourful and atmospheric semi-abstract paintings expressing my love of, and response to different landscapes.
I am inspired by wild, open and free places which give me a feeling of awe, a sense of the power of nature and the beauty of the elements. I love to respond to places visited on travels around the UK and further afield. My paintings develop intuitively, responding to feelings that arise from my experiences and observations of places visited. I often work from sketchbooks which accompany me on my walks and travels, then back in the studio I will build up layers of marks and colours, experimenting with materials and often following happy accidents which give a feeling of freedom to the painting. Although I paint mainly with acrylics, I often add other media such as collage, inks, pastel and many different mark making pencils. I live in Bristol where I show and sell my work in local art trails around the city and in community galleries and exhibitions. As a teacher of art in secondary schools for many years, I offer Artist Residencies in local schools sharing techniques and my approach to painting. I also offer workshops for adults introducing approaches to acrylic painting and making and embellishing concertina sketchbooks. |
